Question Blue clip on the fuel filter line

I was crawling around under my truck today and was looking at the fuel filter lines.I noticed the blue clip on the entering side. Are you to just disconnect this clip and the fuel line releases? I see the leaving side has the normal "duck bill" connection, where you must use the release tool to get it off.

You use the line tool, push it into the line, it causes the blue clip to release. Then after pushing line on the new filter, press the blue clip to lock it down.

Exclamation

I saw a post on another Ford truck website, with pics from the Ford service manual, where you press the outside edges of the clip then pull the center piece up and out and it will release from the fuel filter, without having to use the tool.

STOP.....................................There are two types of clips.

The blue clip is a 2 part clip. You will see a small piece in the middle of the clip.Lift that up.The with you 2 fingers, push down on the outsides of the clip and it will release the filter.

If it is the other clip that looks like a half moon, the just push the line into the filter.Push on the half moon and pull back.

Don't use the fuel tool as this can wreak the plastic lock inside causing the line not to hold onto the filter.Breaking these clips(which is easy to do) will cost you to replace a line since Ford does not have (or will sell) the clips by themselves.

if you do break the blue clip. you can use the old style push in black or white clip to keep the line in place safely, it is a snug fit but it works and is cheaper than a fuel line

Thumbs up

Actually, you can now get the clips from the dealer. The replacement ones are pink, but they are correct. I wouldn't use the old style clips that come with the filters.
