Have you ever cleaned filter screens in your fuel tank? My truck would blow smoke, loose power and would not respond to the throttle. After a while it would just quit. Would start up, drive for few miles and dies. Was not getting enough fuel. Traced the problem to the fuel tank pick up line. There are two screens in the tank and they got plugged.

Those are not fuel return screens, they are screens to clean large particles out of fuel before it goes to your fuel pump and they are located in the fuel tank. You have to drop the tank to get to them. It is white plastic item that you have to take a part to remove and clean/replace those screens. If I new how to post pictures, I could probably find some pictures of what it looks like.

How many miles have you driven it since it sat for a year? Old stale diesel will form algae...plugging the fuel filter. Take a look in the fuel filter housing, should just be clean fuel in there....and while you are at it, clean the FPR screen too. It's sandwiched between the FPR and filter housing but can be cleaned from inside the FF housing after the filter is removed. A plugged FPR screen will not allow the air in the fuel to return to the tanks.

I have drove it about 3 thousand getting ready to change the filters and the oil, and the fuel filter will try these things it seems to run ok if not under a load it runs best win the rpms are around 2200 and up seems to smooth out if you try to run 55 witch is around 1900-2000 rpms its seems almost like it has a miss if its under a load like pulling a steep hill or hauling my scag around it will still blow some black smoke when you really romp on it thanks for all the help guys I read this forum daily and it helps me alot thanks again Shawn
