Unhappy oil leak located up front of valley

<TABLE width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top>I just posted to a similar thread, but then realized that everyone there was the late night crew, so I'm posting here instead. about my oil leak problem. I have on two or three occasions had a no start problem that ended up being a dry HPOP. I've been meaning to check the check valve like AMiller told me months ago, but haven't gotten around to it. Today after being home for about a half an hour, I looked out to see an 8" round puddle of oil under the truck. I cleaned all of the oil out of the valley and ran the engine for a while to try to narrow down the problem. I did the turbo pedestal o rings last year, and the SS crossover line isn't leaking, so now I have it narrowed down to something up front, as that little dip in the valley up front is filling up with oil. Being Saturday and getting parts being an issue, where should I start? After checking again, with the motor rumming, I can see oil start to flow into the valley from the center of the motor, under the fuel bowl. I can't see or even feel my to anything under there. Any ideas before I just start tearing it apart? Thanks

yeah i've heard of this problem before, it sounds like its coming from the turbo, i think theres an excess oil resevoir right below the valley, so its possible an area inthere is leakin some oil

1. IPR O rings
2. Cracked HPOP
3. Blown O ring on "do not remove plug" on HPOP
4. Blown O ring on oil feed line(s)

those sound more likely to be the problem, even the high pressure pump

if its under the fuel bowl it won't be the turbo !!!!!

It may be the non servicable plug thats on the HPOP.. This is a plug that can be serviced ! It has a o-ring on it and can be done in the truck with a mirror and flash light.. I had it done to my truck less than a month ago.. ! Sounds like that could be your problem !

Clean it up in there again..... get a flash light and small mirror and get someone to start the motor...while you look ! Its right on the bottom drivers side of the HPOP ! Thats located under the fuel bowl..

Also double check to make sure it is oil and not fuel...... The drain valve's on the fuel bowls like to leak on these as well !!

Hope that helps ya out !

I had to replace the O ring and thread lock the "non-serviceable plug". No leaks for over 6k miles and a couple of months.

Get out your flashlight and an inspection mirror and take a look at these places. Once you figure out what's leaking we can point you in the right direction for the fix.

thanks for the input guys. I'm heading to the hardware store now for a mirror. I will definately keep you all posted on the outcome. P.S. That was a great thread that ron forwarded. Sounds like a PITA, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

ok, hopefully someone reads this pretty quickly here, cuz I need my truck for work tomorrow. I got the HPOP out and fixed hopefully anyway the 2 plugs that were leaking. I was climbing up into the engine compartment to start putting things back together, when I found the "mystery part" it looks like the inside of a glass fuse holder. it has a spring and at one end it has a flat "conductor". any ideas? it's not all oily, so I don't think it's been laying down there does it go into one of the ports on the HPOP?? HELP!!!

Here's some links with pictures. Do you see your part in one of the pics?

Diesel-Central.com the technical source for Diesel Truck information, Truck Pulling, and Drag Racing

http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/public...OP%20Guide.pdf

Edit: the last one didn't work. Go to FDDTS - Tech Publications and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. There is an HPOP guide there you can click on and open.

This really sucks. Now my internet died at home and I'm trying to do this with a blackberry. And I can't open the file with the pictures. I guess I'll go back out and try to figure it out. Thanks for the link though

Is it possible that this spring goes into one of the inlets on the filter housing?

Not sure what you have found. If you are fairly sure it did not come from the pump, and I don't think it did, put the pump on and throw the other piece in the tool box.
