99 Psd In Need Of Help
New To The Powerstroke And Not Liking It. I Have Had This Truck Almost 1 Year, and I Miss My 94 Turbo 7.3
I Have The Ability To Work On This But The Cumputerized Motor Has Me Lost.
It Is A 99 Powerstroke In A F350 4x4 Off Road, That Is Missing At Rpms Up To Around 2750 Above That It Seems To Clear Up. It Has A Really Bad Blue Smoke When Warned Up, The Smoke Turns Black Above 2750 Rpms. I Have A Cold Air Intake System And If You Listen To It At A Idle You Hear A Woof Woof Woof Sound. When You Attempt To Move It And Then Let Off The Fuel Pedal It Pops And Sounds Through The Exhaust Like My Jake On My Cat In My Peterbilt.

You may want to check your turbo. Remove the air tube, grab the end of the shaft and try to pul it out and push it in. It should NOT move in or out. Try to wiggle it side to side, and up and down. If you can move it enough to contact the side, it is bad. Where are you located? Fuel filter changed lately? No check engine lights? Bad injector harness? Not really enough info for diagnosis. These are things to check.

Where Is That Located. I Think That Is Bad, Befor These New Problems Started My Boost Would Drop And My Egt Jump High And Loose A Bit Of Power. When This Would Happen It Would Sound Like A Pluged Exhaust With Lots Of Pressure. But I Hadnt Located It To Temparly Wire It Open Or Replace It.

Here's the best picture I have seen to date. Thanks to Dan (Kwikordead). You can unplug the sensor and it should defaut to open. You should be able to move the rod that connects the valve. Make sure it is open.
It is hard for me to read you post with every word starting with CAPS, is there a reason?

It sounds to me like you have a mechanical problem with the engine. It shouldn't bark at you from the intake, just have the typical wide open intake drone like all diesels have.
Ignore the electronics for now and pretend that you have your old mechanical diesel and go after that sound.
Compression test, look for bent/broken push rods, rocker arms, etc.
My guess is that one of the exhaust valves is not opening, or just barely opening for some reason and the "woof" is the sound of the back pressure from the combustion chamber blowing back up through the intake valve when it opens.
As I am writing this post, I am remembering hearing a few cases of the roller lifter losing the roller.
Please let us know what you find.
