302 block question

I have an '88 302 that I pulled the heads off because I had a bad cylinder. I have procrastinated long enough now that today while cleaning the area where the lifters sit I find a hole that doesn't look like its supposed to be there. It is on the wall where the front of the intake manifold seats, behind the distributor sleeve. What I'd like to know is; 1. Is this hole supposed to be there. 2. If you can't tell from my description where the hole is, could you point me to a site that may have a picture of the top of a block. I would like solve this so I can finally get my truck back together, cause people are starting to give me a hard time about it.

302 block question

Have no fear my troubled friend. Yes, it is supposed to be there if it is roughly 1" in diameter, and is mostly vertical with the floor of it level with the lifter valley floor. It is an extra oil drain back hole. Generally, when rebuilding, I like to duburr and smooth it out. Hope this helps!

302 block question

Hey chuck thanks for the help. I think I'll leave it as is for now, I'll wait until the rebuild to do clean up. I appreciate the help and just wanted to let you know you've helped me to get back on track. So I'm going out side now to finish cleaning up before installing the heads.
