1. Does anyone have any gallery pictures of their conversions?
2. Can I mount the 9 inch below my springs like stock axle, U-bolts around springs and the U-bolt plate on top of springs?
I know I still need some weld on shock mounts, still looking. I refuse to pay $100 for the kits available or even the $40 for weld on shock mounts most of our F100 friendly vendors wanna sell me. If anyone knows of any decent (read cheap) universal shock mounts I can weld on, please advise.
Crap! I'm gonna stop talking to you guys at night!
Here I am in my shorts and a t-shirt relaxing with a beer and playing on the computer and someone asks "Hm how does the 9" bolt in, and do you have any pictures." And I know that right out there in the garage is that 51 with the 9 3/8 in it with the shocks, and everything youwant to see etc.
And I try to just move to the next forum.
Now not only is it making me crazy not to remember whats under there, I'm putting my danm pants on and grabbing the camera and I'm "goin' in"
Here are a few pics I took of how my shocks are mounted. Remember mine is a 9 3/8 but close to the same as the 9inch. So tere may be a few extra doo dads. But I think the pics show the shock mounting on the frame.
Scotty, I saw your post last nite, since then I've thought about it a little.
Actually, Cheby started putting 'one shock fwd-- one shock rear a few years ago, Ford soon followed,..but us traditionalist's like it the way you mentioned..maybe just looks cool.
Anyway, I incorporated my rear shock mount into the spring mount, one piece for both ,and made it adjustable for different shock lenghts. ck my gallery , I think you can see them. Just required a little dreamin ( I do alot of that) and some bench fabbing.Good Luck!
Just got done mounting a 9 inch in my '51 Bronco. I used a rearend out of a '70 Ford F-100. I just cut the shock mounts off the '70 rearend and ground them so they went on "square" with the rearend (they mount at an angle on the newer pickup) loosley mounted the shocks to them to tack them where they should be and re-welded them.
Don't know what rearend you are using but if you can cut the mounts off of a junker somewhere that should work. Also, the "cups" that mount the rearend on mine were off a F-3 I'm pretty sure. Seems like the originals weren't big enough for the larger diameter of the 9' housing.
Good luck.
