What have you done to your truck today?
When I think of the "What have you done to your truck today?" thread, I think of positive things like getting a truck running or upgrading something you have wanted to do for a while, or even just going off-roading. And today as I thought about it more, this qualifies as well...I busted my fan (somehow).
Replaced fuel filter today. 1995 F150 Dual Tanks. I have never been so fustrated trying to perform a routine maintence task. Took me a solid 4 hours. The position of the fuel filter could not be in a worse place. It took three trips to auto parts store to get a descent quick disconnect tool and that just barely worked on the rear connect. Real disappointed with Ford today.

After I got the water pump off, I saw this and laughed...
My best guess is that when I was installing the motor, I caught the water pump pulley on the front of the engine compartment and made the pulley mounting bracket on the water pump (that is pressed on) come out of alignment. When that happened, the pulley was rotating off balance when the motor was running and slowly started to come off. As it did, it weakened the top of the back part of the water pump cover (also the front part of the timing cover). On the top, where it broke, there isn't much in terms of support on the back part of the broken piece. When the fan was rotating off balance, this weak area cracked.
I am thankful this didn't completely break when the motor was running as there would be the potential for water getting inside the timing cover and mixing with oil.
I'll be switching to electric fans after this so there is less of a potential for this happening again. I was just making a list and I think if I can get a 160 amp alternator (to support the electric fans) shipped to me this week, I can have it up and running by next weekend.

Same here on the fuel filter. I took me and a buddy several hours of: "Ok, I'll twist this while you push here and gently tap it in the other direction" type nonsense interspersed with checking several manuals and the internet because we figured we had to be doing something wrong but couldn't figure out what.
