I gotta figure out how to train that. My lab is just 7 months, but already weighs about 70 lbs, and is afraid to jump anywhere. Free lifting a 70 lb dog into the truck gets hard on the old back real fast. He just goes limp and shows no interest in helping one bit.

yeah my lab missed a jump onto the tail gate of one of my trucks when she was a pup, it took a long time to get her to load up after that, but once they feel confident they will jump right in. Having another lab jump in and leaving mine behind once did the trick. She didnt want her sister riding while she ran along side.

Here's Brit, my traveling dog. The cocker spaniel doesn't like to travel.

Right after we got her home for the first time:

And after she thought she was bigger than a 120 pound yellow lab:

This is Lola (pitbull mix, or so I was told)
Loves going for a ride, but I could do without the scratches on the side of the tuck bed!

My buddy has a couple of coon dogs and he runs them up to the tailgate (with a leash) and pulls up on the collar and they will usually jump in. But we have had a couple of accidents.

Mine too... he's 6 months old and I can get him to single-step it up into the cab, but otherwise, NO interest in doing it himself...

Chicken ****.

Both Great Danes just put their front paws on the back seat and I have to lift their hind end into the truck. Truck is lifted and they won't attempt the leap. They tried once or twice, but after failing, they don't go for that any more....lolol. When the back doors are open, they just climb up and stand there and look at me, waiting for help.

My Lab was hesitant at first. I got some 'doggie treats', put the rear wheels in a ditch so the tailgate was low, sat her down and tossed a treat into the bed of the truck. After a few successful attempts, took the truck out of the ditch and did the same thing. It was a confidence thing with her, she was physically capable. Now she'll 'kennel' anytime I tell her.

Our dogs ride in the back... here they are ready to go

Here they are relaxing:

The Boxer will get up on top of the tool box while driving... I always thought it was kewl seeing dogs do that. It is not so kewl when its your dog doing it on the interstate with a Semi directly behind you.
