It's a program thing Ford has the trans slip when locking from 3rd to 4th. I read a thread about a trans controler that takes care of the problem and Diane chimed in and said Jody had solved the problem with his program. I don't know how old your DP tuner is you may want to call Jody and talk to him about this.
you would think with DP,BTS valvebody and banks trans command one should solve it
maybe it's overkilled
Nope none of the above will solve what The Cure solves. I am Action4478's friend. Jody sent me a chip to try out to see if he could do what the Cure does. It didn't work. He said he has more control of the 4R than the E4 but I have not experienced that first hand. Also a user named TWIM on TDS has a full BTS trans and the Cure and said he loves it. Made a great tranny even better. A banks transcommand just raises line pressure as far as I know.
The Cure only does one thing. It fixes the sliding 3rd to OD shift. What happens is the torque converter is unlocking during the shift then relocking. The Cure makes that unlock/lock ALOT faster. Try the tests that Action posted in the link. It will give you a feel for what the Cure does. I love mine! Great thing is that it has a 30 day money back guarantee. If you don't like it send it back. Plus all proceeds from The Cure go to help cancer victims and their families. Gotta love that!

I just found it strange the DP fixed mine and none of the others
might be that I only have about 12k miles on my torque,it done the same at about 7k miles and may do it again as it gets older
I have noticed the shifts aren't as positive in 80E as in 40 tow
I always run 40T n town
is it normal for it slide into gear instead of a firm shift like 1-2,2-3.Its been like that since i got the truck 2 years ago. Thanks
Chris
Mine does this depending on where the throttle is. If its a gradual acceleration, it kinda slips from 3 to 4, then locks the tc. If I'm lighter or harder on the go pedal, it just drops in gear.
There are many products on the market that help (hide) the flare (DP, BTS, Shift kits) but none of them address the actual problem, The TC unlocking during the shift. Even a lock up switch makes this not happen but you must flip the switch everytime and from what I understand the guys with a 4R will set a CEL if they use a lock up switch.

Guzzle has a writeup on the lockup switch that fools the pcm into thinking it still has control of the TC and keeps the OD light from flashing and setting a code. Welcome to guzzle's TC Lockup Mod Web Page
I guess I came out luckier than a two peckered goat with mine,I couldn't ask for it to work any better
the torque locks shortly after 3rd and well before 4th acting like a five speed
but with my luck nothing good is chisled in stone, just hope it stays the way it is
