On the road again

A couple of weekends ago I picked up my 79 from storage at the family farm. It was wrecked about 4 years ago by my son and I am piecing the front end back together. It needs a new bumper and grille to complete the front end, pics in gallery. It runs and drive well for sitting so long but the body is in need of a lot of work. Last weekend the new starter and battery cables were installed. The starter is a high torque unit from Summit and works so much better than the factory one. Looking forward to getting the body work started so I can stop the rust process. After seeing a truck in the galleries with my factory paint scheme that was still shiny I decided to go back with the black and silver. This site is such a wealth of information and inspiration, it is good to know I am not the only one crazy about these old trucks.

Congrats Arnold, on gettting your truck up and running again. Sometimes I wish I had a super cab. In answer to your question in my other thread; the only ignition problem i have is the generic Oreilly's Dist Cap. It doesn't seem to last more than a couple years with this extra spark traveling through it. The eight electrode pieces get eaten away. Oreilly's has replaced it twice under their lifetime parts warranty.

Through the years I have had several regular cabs. Once I bought the supercab, I do not think I could go back to a regular cab, except for hot rod purposes. They are very handy. I like the picture of the red one in your gallery.

Your truck is super sharp, I wish mine was still that clean.

Hey Chris, all the front end needs now is a grille and front bumper. I will be getting a chrome tube grille from Stull industries. I put in an Optima red top battery with new cables, and a pro torque starter from summit. That thing spins like a top now. I have been talking to Jimmy about sandblasting it in the future but I am not ready to do that yet

The body class I was goiing to take at Autry got cancelled but they should have another one in the spring.

Isn't your truck an 86? Remember that blue and white 86 we had. It is sitting in Wilburton, OK with the motor, interior, and transmission pulled out of it b ut all the body was there last time I went through there.

My next project is to rebuild the Holley, check timing, new belts and hoses. Just get it road ready. Lets get together sometime. I finally found some rims for the 05 look in my gallery.

Chris, if you want to do a gallery on your truck I could take some pictures for you and help you set it up.

Just started a body class at the local vo tech Tuesday. Sanded rust off the cab for about an hour after we took all the safety tests and does not look like I got very far. Will probably spend the entire time sanding tonight. Good to finally see some shiny metal, just want to stop the rust from ruining the cab at this point. I have to get new quarter panels for the bed and a new hood, maybe a tailgate, too.
