Every one should have one of these on board....

In the past two weeks I've had a stack fire and a possible fire by hot headers coming into contact with oil. Both times I had to grab a fire extinguisher and figured I should have had it in there before anyways.

So, today I found a good home for it. I was going to mount it on the passenger kick plate but, then figured this was a good place and that I could get to it quicker here anyways:

Funny thing is it was sitting in the garage in a box with two others. I think I'll put one in my Jeep too. I have one in the Motorhome and boat so those are OK. I'll keep the last one for the garage.

Doh I think that was the original plan

Hmmm I have a naive question. Do you have to worry about a pressurized fire extinguisher being by a black surface on a hot summer day? Do these explode when they get hot? My mom had a can of Lysol explode in her Ford Escort in a parking lot while she was shopping. It shattered the windshield and the car probably still has that Lysol smell in it 22 years later. I completely agree about having one though. My dad had an engine fire in his '76 Ford van. He had an extinguisher a few feet away and had it out fast.

Nope, if it did you wouldn't see them on boats or in race cars. ;-)

This one is a marine issue as well so I'm sue it can handle the heat. Actually, I'm sure it can handle an impact if someone was to rear end me as well. There a little thicker than a lysol can and are mandated for all off-road trips by CA4WDC.

Here's a website to see more. This is a pretty good one Mariner 110. I bought two for $29.95 at Costco last year.

Kidde Mariner Series Fire Extinguishers

Actually, this gives you even better information:

http://www.kidde.com/utcfs/ws-384/As...ne_Catalog.pdf

The fire extinguisher does say not to storage at extreme temperatures over 120F or under -40F. So, I don't think we have a problem with temperatures especially since I have the toneau that keeps it in the shade and a little breeze goes through there as I drive.

Good point about the toneau cover. I don't have one. I am sure the cab of my truck gets well above 120F though and there is a fire extinguisher somewhere in there.

I emailed them with our concerns. Why would they make a marine product that you would have to worry about inside your boat. Something not adding up here. You have a valid point and people use these all the time in their work trucks and on boats as I do. I just never realized the temp rating was so low. The only thing I'm thinking is storage for a long time over the 120F might be an issue. Perhaps day to day ranges are OK. Let's see what they say. If we can't use this in a boat or car .... why do they sell it for that use? I'll make sure to post the answer to our question.

P.S. I hate type A scientists.... wait, that me too....

Let me see what happen if we .... BOOM !!!!

Well. if my bed ever caught fire, that'd be a good thing

I'd suggest a cab mount...especialy for you AJ...don't you have a cover on your truck?

Also, before anyone buys one, make sure it's rated for electrical fires...been awhile since I did my safety test, but theres several different type of extinguishers<sp>, depending on the job...

okay, back to late night tele....

Yes, I have a cover on my bed but, I can get to the extinguisher pop it off and get it to the engine compartment this way I think.

This is a A,B, and C extinguisher. Covers all the bases. Normally you only need a B, C for autos and boats. Here's the breakdown:

A - Trash, Wood, Paper, Cloth, Rubber and most plastics
B - Flammable Liquid, Oil, Grease, and Gases
C - Energized Electrical Equipment (C rating is for the non-conductive agents)

Since were on the topic remember PASS when you use a extinguisher. You only have 8-12 secs of juice (so to speak)

Pull - the pin
Aim - at the base of the fire
Spray - and hold down, you might see a flare up in the first couple of seconds. That is normal.
Sweep - left to right or right to left and through the fire from the leading edge.

Not Fair - - - - this thread is not fair in its title. It is false advertising! You lure us in with a catchy title, and then give us safety information.

I expected to see a bikini clad treasure, or at least a supercharger or some other speed equipment.

You guys are nice people, but us rednecks like to use dirt to put fires out, and see pictures of supercharged trucks filled with bikinis.

Mike, I agree. Leave it to Dan to make you like the picture of a fire extinguisher.

This is one thread I will not open again!

You think these are Dan's dream ladies?

It is all Dan's fault!
