I'm looking to set myself up with train horns. I've looked at some kits. I like that one kit has a 3 gallon air tank, but it's over 175 db. I don't want to ruin someone's ears (especially my own) I just want to wake them up and hopefully make some jerks riding their 10 speeds in the middle of the road fall over. If you think 175 is over the top can you recommend me something?

 

Um. 175 dB would proabably make someones ear bleed if it was close and more than a second in duration.

 

Thought so. Do you know of any that are a little quieter? The quietest one those guys have is like 160 Db which I'd imagine is still pretty stinkin loud when you're layin on it.

 

Keep your stock horn and rig up the train horn with a separate button. That way you can use it when it is safe to, such as when the other person is in a car with the stereo thumping and the windows rolled up.

 

I wouldn't rig it to the regular horn anyways. I'm more worried about my own hearing. 175Db is a LOT of sound. Anybody here actually have a set of train horns installed on their rig?

 

Yeah, check out strokin' it_7.3 in the 1999-2003 forum him and several others over there have them.

 

Yea when I was lookin at an 02 f250 I hung out in those forums a lot. I'll ask about them there too I guess.

 

I have also been looking at getting some train horns on my truck, these are the sites I have been looking through. Hope this helps a little...

175 DB for a train horn is pretty much impossible. Hornblasters loudest is 156db. Idk why anyone would want to even try and go above that. But go to hornblasters.com and check out the products. The customer service is great.They will def. treat you right and give you everything necessary to install a train horn in your ride. Let them know you are from a forum online and you heard about it. Also, go to youtube.com and type in 'hornblasters' and you will see some of the crazy stuff they pull.

i plan on using fire truck (grover studder tone) air horns on mine. im not sure of the db level though

Trainhorn.org is a risk. There is no way of contacting the people...so good luck with the product if it ends up being garbage or you are missing pieces. On other sites people have complained. Another thing is they say your db will increase from 170-175 if you add another compressor...NOT lol Ya that can't really work...it's like if you add another fuel tank to your truck and expect the horsepower to increase.

I think I can set myself up fine thanks for the attempt at helping though. Right now horns are taking a back seat to fuel.

 

The sound level is adjustable - just reduce the air pressure to a level you like ........
