1996 7.3 wont start after sitting 2 days

phatmanmike is starting off with a positive reputation.
1996 7.3 wont start after sitting 2 days

herez what i know....

1996 7.3 psd turbo

ran out of fuel and let sit for 2 days. returned with 3 gallonns of 4.00 a gallon diesel and put in tank. cranks, white smoke out tail pipe, tach moves, fuel bowl fills up, but will not fire/ start.

towed home, checked fuses, none blown. cranks, white puffs out tail pipe, but still nuttin.....


im in tampa area florida, 80 degrees, is the GP still needed to start when its warm out?

If it only ran out of fuel ,,, make sure the batteries & starter are up to it ,,,bleed the Air from the FPR ,,and crank till it starts ...

check the hpop reservoir. somebody will come along with a pic. but that would be a good place to check.

FARM69 is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Yep, it will take a little cranking to get the air out of the fuel system. Might also be a good idea to check the oil level in the hpop. There is a hex plug on the top right side I believe.

its running again!!!!!!!!!!

ok, thanks guys, its running now and im letting it recharge the batts a bit from cranking and cranking.

anyways....
heres what i did.....

i cleaned the screen on the Fuel Pressure Regulator, i checked and filled the oil level in the High Pressure Oil Pump, as it was low, and i also bled the air from the Fuel Pressure Regulator.

it would sputter and spew white smoke, but after about 10 more seconds it gave one big coff(caugh) and started. its idleing now and i hope this could be usefull to anybody else in teh futre.
