Dan- They said they will pro-rate the $860+ dollars that I already spent there so that is nice...
Peter- I greatly appreciate your offers and if you and I had any and or more time it would be a great idea. But also lets not forget the fact of your 7 kids and my lack of transportation. Ann will let me drive her mini-van to get home so I can make it back in the morning but thats about it. Along the same lines of no money I can't afford to drive the barn truck for personal use. That Crew Cab Long bed 1 ton dually with the 460 in the front of it isnt very mpg friendly.
If I do some how manage to get the money to do this it is going to have to be ASAP and my friends uncle says he can have it done in a few days... You and I would be a weekend project that would probably take more then one weekend.
As Mike said "Let's go left coast guys" apparently there arnt enough of them. it would be nice to find at least one that has more experience with these things then Duck Fan and I.
Peter has had his PSD less time then I have had mine. The both of us have swapped motors in different vehicles but Im affraid this is a whole new ball game.
I heard back from the dealer and it sounds like for them to do it its going to be just under 9k out the door. But that would be with a 2 year unlimited mile warranty on the motor. And they will warranty their work as long as I own the truck... This is tempting seeing as if a buy a motor my self for $6500 plus another $1000 for him to install it. he is all the way up in Sacramento, and I dont think they will offer the warranty on the motor if it isnt installed by a licensed shop.
As always I am open for suggestions and greatly appreciate yalls help!
Try to bargain the dealership down. They ain't sellin' any cars and trucks right now. They just might come back with a better deal. If you ask me they owe you more than just that $860.
Nolan, I feel for you and wish you the best of luck. When I bought mine, times were tighter and I insisted on and paid for a warranty. I have since voided the crap out of that with mods, but I am in the position to overcome catastrophe.
I don't want to, but I could have a catastrophic failure at Smokin next week if I am not careful. 10 days from now you may be hearing about a window in my block. I know this does nothing for you but the part about protecting yourself may be food for thought and goes with your post about warranty work.
Of course any of that kind of thing relegates you to driving around totally stock. Remember that. That is very boring. I have decided that I will warranty my own engine myself.
I would be tempted to sell my truck with the new engine to tell you the truth... I'd be able to get more then I owe on it... Which would go to paying back whoever might loan me $ for the new motor. I'd be SOL without a truck but it would give me good credit and after I pay off the $ from whoever I could start from scratch...
Nolan, have you looked into the possibility of having your existing motor rebuilt? I am just wondering if it would save you some money. I realize from a time factor that takes longer but at this point not much is getting done anyway. Just trying to offer helpful suggestions.
I'm in the same position at Nolan...potentially looking at dropping in another engine or trying to find / repair the problem with my engine (cylinder/piston skirt issue). Given the time / labor involved, I was considering that it might be cheaper to drop in a re-built vs fixing the issue and still really having a 200k mile engine to run on. Does anyone have any thoughts on those 2 approaches, the costs of rebuilding vs buying rebuilt...and where do you find/buy a good rebuilt engine. Not seeing many places online yet.
Check out rhino diesels or usdiesels .com they have them. i talk to my locla stealership today and they found a wrecked truck close by that has a good motor in it with only 100k miles on it. They said I could get that for about $3500. They would charge just under 2k to put it in (minus the 860 they owe me) And warranty the motor for three months... Get me out the door for just under 5000 aint to bad compared to a remmaned motor for 7k.

Will that be a complete motor and do you get your old motor? The reason I ask is you could part out your old motor and recoup some of the expense.
