Dual gas tank switches and levers

I have a 66 f250 4x4 w/352. I have two questions. My first question is, behind my seat, on the gas tank, there are two switches labeled (f) and (r). One at the top of the tank, and one at the bottom. both are on the driver side of the tank. I thought it was aftermarket, but it looks like the switches are mounted on tabs that are part of the gas tank. Does anyone know if this WAS stock? and how do they work?

second question is, on the floor of the truck, below previously mentioned switches, there is a tank lever switch that is broken. (this truck has dual tanks)Does anyone know who might sell a replacement? I have been having trouble trying to find one.

Thanks,
Brad

The floor switch can be rebuilt but it will require a trip to Napa with the soft parts in hand. It's super simple in design and function.

The switches you are refering to on the tank are for the sending units. You can't have both sending units on at the same time. You find that when you switch the front tank on and off the guage will not operate. In 67 they were nice enough to actually put it in the dash under the left side of the instrument cluster.

Be interesting to read what Bill posts but I would have guessed the switches were all aftermarket.

yeah, but you can't really turn them "on or "off". They both just have a "f" and an "r".

and thanks for the info about the tank selector, I will got to napa for that one.

That's correct, John.

Ford did not offer an auxillary gas tank till 1967.

1967/72: It was under the bed, inside the left frame rail and contained 25 gallons. It was an option, it didn't come as standard equipment.

If a 1966 or earlier truck has an auxillary tank, it's not genuine Ford.

On mine originally there were 2 aux. tanks inside the bed...covered up the flat portion of the bed floor up front on either side with necks going out the bed rail area. In the cab theres a lever on LH side of seat in area below where seat pivot is give or take a bit...the label Ive seen on most Ive encountered says Gem Tank...and the plate on it has 3 positions according to said plate R, L and M M meaning main as I understand it...Im assuming and based on what I know of the options Ford offered as well as what Bill stated above, these setups were aftermarket...maybe dealers had them added if customer wanted it possibly...the bad thing I rememeber about the tanks in the bed is after umpteen years and no room to clean the crud from around it, it creates a haven for rust and rot to do its thing...

Fey Bumper Company on the West Coast offered several aftermarket tanks, thru 1972. There was one single, or two saddle tanks available. These were sold to dealers, or Fey installed them.

DEAD GIVEAWAY: On 1967/72's, with aftermarket auxillary tanks, the filler neck goes thru the quarter panel(s) above the bumpside, just above the front edge of the rear wheel opening.

The Ford factory filler neck used with the auxillary tank goes through the left quarter panel below the bumpside, about one foot in front of the rear wheel opening.

interesting.....yeah, the tank between the frame rails has the filler neck coming up through the driver side wheel rear fender (flareside) just above the wheel. So yeah, this must be aftermarket. I think I'll take the tank out and just run the behind the seat tank. simplify...
and this truck was originally from idaho, where the previous owner had extensive work done to add some toolboxes to the rear of the bed, so I shouldn't be surprised if the gas tank was added too. at least it appears he had it all done professionally. and the truck looks way better after removing the toolboxes...

once again, thanks for all the help you guys...
