iam having trouble figuring this one out....(01 f350 4x4)when i apply my brakes,i get a clunk type sound from underneath my feet......it doesn't do it all the time....also,if i get it to do it,it seems like i have to wait a bit to get it to do it again...iam thinking it has something maybe to do with brakes/calipers...it almost seems like it has to"reset itself" so to speak before it will do it again.I quickly poked my head under there this morning before work, and i did notice that the caliper seemed like it had a little movement in it...it was the same on the passenger side though, and i only get the noise from the drivers side...just wondering if anybody had any ideas...iam sure it is not link end bushings, stabilizer bushings, ball joints,etc.....because i just recently did all that...it definately seems to be in the brake setup somewhere....thanks for any input!
Your ball joints are worn. When mine started to go, it would only do it when braking pretty hard, but it was a nice loud thud. Jack the front end up and try moving the tires around with a long 2x4 and see if the joints have play. If they do, RacerGuy has a good writeup on ball joint replacements. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ll-joints.html
my vote is ball joints, i had the same problem when commin to a stop on my truck as well. changed out the ball joints, had an alignment, and the truck drove so much nicer afterwards. got grees fittings to
i only have maybe 5000km on ball joints...i'm sure that isn't it...it isn't a loud noise either.....this sticking caliper pin kinda makes sense...wht is the best way to check this?....thanks for the ideas gentlemen!
I have do disagree with the ball joint idea, though it is possible, I just did my balljoints 25K ago and am experiencing the same thing by the sounds of it. Only mine seems to be coming from the rear brakes
Intermittent noise under your feet while braking .... a "thump" .... driver or passenger side ... comes up often here on this forum. In addition to all those things you already changed, some people have said the cab mounting bolts/bushings/etc. I've never even looked at mine, but I will.
There should be no play in the caliper area, no? The calipers are bolted on, and the pistons/pads should be snug against the rotors.
I didn't think you would hear a sticking caliper slide pin "releasing." When we apply the brakes, isn't the movement only hundreths of an inch?
I say its a sticky caliper... does the truck pull to one side or another?
Not all the time but when it does, oh boy does it ever. She just kind of goes where she wants and I hope to god I can turn that steering wheel fast enough!

clean your caliper slide pins then and grease them
