If Ford wants to stay in the game.....

I hear much worse like the 07+ emisions cr@p is killing mpg by 6-8, all brands are affected too! I know of many guys selling or trying to sell their 08s and they are buying 05-06's etc, pre-regeneration filter cr@p. The diesel fuel stds are changing in 2010 so thats why you won't see any of the baby diesels until then as their emmisions equipment is all geared towards the new fuel stds. So whilr we don't know yet ,the next gen of emisions could allow the mpg to creep back up. PLEASE And yes there are many chipped high hp diesels (pre-07 emmisions equip) getting sell over 20mpg (I'm being conservative) on long runs...

i skipped a few pages and im gonna cut to the point, a high hp truck in diesel form CAN get very good mileage, many of us have seen the 700-800hp trucks they compare in diesel power magazine...they compared like 10-trucks all over 600hp at the tires all the way up to like 1000hp and the worst one got 15.. the best got like 22 so that leads one to believe 25 shouldnt be a problem in a halfton, HOWEVER the new e missions crap lately has been cutting 2-4mpg off what some of the current motors are capable of. the new 4.4 that is spose to be in the f150 is suppost to have a whole different system in the exhaust so it might be a turning point on the mileage going the other way...i would be blaming the epa for any lack of mileage per gallon.... not ford, ive heard up to 4mpg gains on the 6.4 powerstroke without all the emissions crap... i guess well wait...
oh heres a pic of my ranger with 2040lbs, has 30 68lb retaining wall blocks in it, did 5 straight loads like that, no prob

I still think the ranger is one of the toughest small size trucks ever made. I'll be sorry to see it go.
Low sulfur diesel has caused a drop in economy because there is a loss of BTUs per gallon from the extra refining, simply put, you are paying more and getting less. I can't say first hand becasue of all the other mods and changes I made with my diesel in the past few months kept me from getting a good base line for MPG, but all you can really do is deal with it anyway.
I'm just glad they haven't tried to ban my non catalyst, non EGR, non DPF truck, at least not yet.
With fuel prices set to spike again this summer, I suspect we will see a renewed focus on MPG in the comming years, as well as new ford diesels devaluing faster than ever before.

Yeah I drive a toyo nissan ...
Eddie Bauer 1990 toyota bronco. I have 2 of them.
I also have a 1994 xlt nissan ranger,
I am also the owner of a 1997 mitsubishi villager.
I had A 1993 chevrolet aerostar before that.
before you go spouting off about nissan, you better look at a titan. I have been out pulled by a titan. Pissed me off, but my 351w was no match for it. And it out did me on gas mileage. BIG TIME

Your Ford will be around long after the nissan is in the dump.

Ford has to worry about itself. getting pensions and ins. off its book, updating its lineup with with vehicles that share more parts.
Gm seems to be headed in the right direction quicker, but i hope ford does well. i love my truck. would love to own another.
