I've been a mmeber since 2003 and posted 17 times.Because others on this forum bust your chops when a question has already been posted and you didn't do a search on the topic.
Here is my issue I want to PM someone however I can not because I recieve this error: (becuase I have not posted 26 times)
Attention gordonh8r! Our records show that you haven't posted in over 2 weeks. Remember that FTE is a community and we need your participation! Don't be afraid to post and be a part of the action.
I could always post some BS topics (like this one) or repeat some but this forum has so much information that I don't see the need to post unless the I can't find the topic. Further more not all topics are listed the same for instance 4" exhaust ,MBRP exhuast , 663 filter or Napa filter and so on........
Sorry .. I'm venting here ...just a bit frustrated

Dont be afraid of posting here. This is one of the best forums on the site. Everyone is friendly and willing to help. As for that error, it shows up for anybody who hasn't posted in two weeks. Post a reply every now and then and it'll go away (your post count will go up too ). Posting about stuff thats aleady on here happens all the time, and leads to some pretty good conversations. Hang around here and you'll see just how great this site is .
EDIT: I was looking back at some of your posts and came across the one about the 6637 not fitting. Any luck on getting that to fit right?
Of all the forums that i've been in and read, the 7.3 forum is by far the best forum to post in. I haven't ever seen anyone jump on someone for not researching a topic. Most of the people will even give links to where info can be found on what they are looking for. Unless someone is just be ridiclous and saying things that are called for I haven't seen anyone jump on anyone. Go ahead and post, you won't be disappointed.
I've had the opposite experience myself. The only thing remotely resembling what you're talking about is that I'll say "If you search a bit you can usually find.....", then I generally will put a link or just directly answer the question. Every one of us started out with 1 post, usually because we had a question about a leak, noise, etc... My first time here was about probably the most common of common issues, the oily turbo/CAC tubes. Alan (amiller) answered my question promptly and courteously and pointed out the CCV mod and where to read about it. In fact, there was just a fellow that thought he needed a new turbo that posted a day or two ago and all he needed was a CCV mod keep the oily junk out of there. No "Go search, dumb@$$", or anything like that. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen that in the 7.3 forum. I don't spend any time in the others, except an occasional foray in the SuperDuty forum to stir the pot.
I will play devils advocate here. I too in the past have had similar feelings about people getting the response "if you had just researched this you would know the answer" type of response. Now that being said I do not see someone get seriously flamed or anything and someone else will still usually post the link needed to help out. This site is WAAAAYYY better than the motorcycle forum I am also on. Please stick around.
I try to point out in a friendly way that there is a way to search these forums, just so folks know they can do that and save *themselves* time. I'll answer CCV mod questions every day if it helps someone out. But I think pointing out the search function (without coming across harshly!) only helps them help themselves next time. I'm sure a lot of folks don't even notice the search link on the tool bar up there, let alone that you can use the advanced search and really drill down to exactly what you're looking for. Am I wrong?
Jay, I have had the same feeling about some of the responses to questions. Usually it was to a freshmen poster who hadn't learned about all the ways to use the site that posted a question and was told to do a search. I think that the more we use the site the more knowledgeable we become about all the features including "search". Sometimes it is easier to just start a new thread than to go through all the links found in a search. The veteran users have a better recall of who posted what about which that helps them find the link faster in a search. Sometimes we need to give the "newbies" a break. We all were one once.

I have seen a post where a new user asked a question and another new user told him to try to find a class to learn spelling and grammer. Well needless to say, he was corrected in the first few post. We/I don't have the college degree to not misspell a word, or where to put a comma. As long as I can understand what the OP is talking about, thats all I need and will never put him/her down about spelling or grammer.
this forum is good, the 6.4 forum is pretty bad right now, nobody wants to believe that those trucks can have problems so whoever has a problem gets chewed out pretty good
No you are not wrong. But not everyone has been so kind to the newbs. Almost, but not all.
Mark,
I agree with you also. It is usually the freshmen users that have not learned the search functions. I am certainly not attempting to slam anyone on this site as I have learned from one and all. Sometimes with the familiarity of some members those of us that are newer to the site sometimes may get the "good ol boys club" feeling. After being on here a while though I do not get that vibe but it was there in the first months because I did not "know" the different personalities as well.
Not trying to tick anyone off. Just stating how it feels to be "new" LOL
I love this place. It is a rare day I am not on hear at the very least lurking
On the other side of this, it is VERY difficult to read a post with no caps (or ALL CAPS) & no punctuation. I have seen that pointed out a bit harshly now that you mention it. I don't think anyone is expecting PHD level writing here, but it does help everyone understand when there is a fair attempt at using caps when needed and periods and the end of sentences.
I think it's fair to ask that a problem be well described so some reasonable suggestions can be made to the poster. It's already difficult at best to diagnose something over the internet -- no need to make it more so, right?
This site is a wealth of knowledge and 99.9% of the folks will be more than willing to help you! Just treat folks how you would like to be treated and remember we all had to learn how to walk before we could run and above all just have Fun!!

Very good post Jay. You may have the right view of this. Someone may come across to someone else as being mean, but not meaning to be. This same thing happened to Pete a while back. Its hard to talk to someone on here and know how they are saying something. If you were talking face to face you could read their expressions and know what they are meaning.
Gordon, I hear what you are saying and, to some extent, you are certainly correct. However, if you check these boards on a daily basis you can always find a post where you might be able to throw your two cents in. There are such a variety of topics that we all discuss that obtaining 26 posts is really not very difficult to do.
I do think that sometimes, perhaps too often, people do not search enough before throwing out their question. Most people here though exhibit unusual patience for that sort of thing and I believe that is indicative of the mentality of the FTE folks; we really like our trucks and we really llike to help each other out. Besides, being flamed a bit just toughens you up; a bit of verbal jousting is actually fun. So join in please.
