Borrowing a quote from Napoleon Dynamite:

"I don't understand a word you just said."

What is descreening and gutting the maf ???

What is proposed is to remove all the internal parts of the MAF. Thus making air flow better, but making the engine run at limp-home settings, with poor gas mileage, with poor performance, and with excessive emissions.
Bad idea, IMO.
If you want more MAF air-flow, get a bigger MAF, such as one from a 302, as a guess.

The MAF tells the computer how much air is coming into the engine. If the computer does not know, it has to take a guess so you won't be stranded if it fails. A guess is worse than having the more correct information from the sensor, as it will be most likely wrong. Either too rich or too lean. Take your pick.

Oh I know what the MAF sensor does and that is why I couldn't undertand what was being asked.

Rip the guts out? I can't imagine doing that. The engine would still run, but running in "best guess mode".

Apparently some folks have done it, or might, or wonder... I dunno???

As a less involved option, why not just unplug the MAF sensor?

Brian, this is only a guess on my part. I 'assumed' that he was yakking about getting better airflow with all that excess 'stuff' removed... Maybe he should look at the older foreign models that had a flap that was moved by air flow, and in turn moved the variable resistor... Get that dang flap out of the way, and we'll let in LOTS more air... Wonder why it runs so bad???
