Frankie that was an awesome read. Thanks for posting that.

That 454 makes a ****load of torque at a really low RPM. It'll be interesting to see how the guys on Trucks can put that to use..

That was a good read. I was surprised the L had a slight performance advantage even though the ss had more hp and tq. Man I love those L's, getting hard to find.

Yeah, that's true. I looked on Ebay for a 454 SS and I found one with like 3500 miles on it! It was sickkkkkkkk. Looked good. Would I buy it? Hell no. My truck is faster than that plus I bleed Blue. Too bad I can't keep up with Lightnings, especially with my weight gaining mods.

Long live the Ford Lightning, kick some SS butt, those late 80's/early 90's full size Chevys were nothing but turds, my dad is A ford guy, but he has owned Chevies and Dodges, bac in '95 he bought an '89 GMC 2500 with a 350 V-8, that 350 was a big turd, it was gutless, overheated all the time, even when he rebuilt the top end of the motor, the truck still was sluggish, I think this race will go to the Ford.

Well the SS got the build up today. Edlebrock heads and intake. Also a shift kit for the tranny. They say from 400-450 HP. I think its going to be close one now. What do you guys think?

It all depends on what the lightning gets. I realy wish they would put a blower on that 351. If so its going to be game over right there. More than likely it will get the same as the 454.

That was a good one. I dunno about 450 hp but I guess if that's at the crank, more power to 'em. That cam will really wake that 454 up I guess. My buddy's 5.7 GTO really woke up with his Stage II cams.

I can't wait to see what they do to the Lightning. Maybe gearing will give the L the edge?

True. I wouldn't mind seeing some 4.30s in there. 4.30s REALLY make my truck come alive.

The reason they put this together was to show what can be done to stuff that people are still doing. All the old comparisons were of stock L and SS trucks. At least from what I have seen. It will be cool to see what they are like after someone has thrown a few bucks into them. I like the older muscle trucks. I'm not a big fan of the look of any of the newer trucks. The Gen 2 Lightnings are cool, but I would take a unmolested Gen 1 over it anyday. I'd probably even take one that needed some help. Here is perfect example of a 94 Lightning. I really like the way black Lightnings look when eveything is black with no chrome.

So what was the advertised BHP on the Gen 1's? I was expecting 190hp max and was surprised with the 200+. Really funny that a 454 couldn't even break 200 though. I think the chevy can easily win overall unless they have a really low budget, but it sounds like it is unlimited so the extra 100 chevy cubes will kill the L in the end.
Gen 1 stock trim was 240 RWHP so 230 should be no suprise. I had my 94 dyno'd last summer at 110 degrees ( AZ ) 212K miles and got 219. Pulled the motor and now running a SC'd 357. now in the 400 RWHP area

A bone stock GEN 1 motor is rated at 240hp/340tq at the crank. Take out 20% from those numbers, for driveline loss, and the RWHP should be close to what a bone stock GEN 1 L would put down on a dyno.
