Little diesels

They actually did make them I think it was 82 or 83. I saw one listed on craigs listlike 6 months ago. I didn't know they existed so I emailed the guy and asked about the conversaion. He replied it was a factory engine 4cyl. I think to find one it would be nationwide search.

wish Toyota would bring their hino built 4 banger powered down under land Tacoma here to force the usa builders to give us a USA built med sized diesel powered rig.
they had one here in the early to mid 80's with a turbo that I had as a demo when I was a dealer service manager for my use, one strong truck just it never got large enough sales numbers plus big uncle started up with tighter smog laws.

The '87 and '88 rangers came with the same 2.3 liter turbodiesel mitsubishi engine that the D50's had from '83 to '86. I have a '84 D50 with that engine and it's pretty nice... not really powerful, but better than your average 4 banger gas engine from 1984. I'm actually switching to it for my daily driver instead of my '94 diesel F250... way cheaper to keep running

looks like they all will have to play a game of catch up with dodge and Nissian going diesel in the 1/2 tons. dodge a v6 nissian a cummins 5.0 v8. another rummer is Toyota also using the very same cummins 5.0 as cummins told them we can supply 2 builders with the motor.
still a ranger sized truck with a nice 4 banger diesel would by great.

Just gonna throw the VW Rabbit Truck that had a diesel option
It was slow as all hell and ive never seen one tow anything but id imagine with a car 4 speed manual it wouldnt really be that great
Still it was a domestically made (made in Westmoreland PA)
Diesel Pickup that got pretty good fuel millage as compared even to cars today
I am a member of some V-dub forms where guys say to usually get around 45mpg witch is typical of VW diesels

Bought my wife a new 2013 beetle TDI after 8k she is averaging 45mpg. the thing is quiet, and has plenty of power for a car. The one thing I wonder about is where is all the emission crap that is on all my Ford trucks? no def? no dpf? doesn't smoke at all? And just for the record If an American mfg made a decent car or a mini / mid size truck with a diesel I would have bought it.

Think about in europe how popular diesels are and you realize that in reality we shoukd be taking notes from the germans when it comes to diesels. The vw diesels that I have seen come through the shop at work are usually in pretty good shape. Get incredible fuel millage and with the right matinance make it to 300k regularly(I know of 20 mk 4 jettas with 250k+ that are still daily drivers
