I found online how to make a sampe batch of Biodiesel, it said all i need is methanol, lye, and oil. Ok here come the questions

What type of oil do I use?
Where can I get lye?

I know that that HEET stuff for gas lines has methanol, is that what I use?

Also do I need to do anything to my truck if I do run Biodiesel in it? They have some at a local BP and its almost the same price as diesel...I just want to try it and see. So is it just a fill up and go thing?

Can it be mixed with diesel? or does my system need to be cleaned out?

with your truck, no, just be prepared to change your fuel filter more often for the first several tank fulls, by nature biodiesel is a solvent so it will eat all the crap off the inside of the tank and into your filter...

 

Fuel lines and seals made of real rubber could be a problem consider replacing anything easily accessible

 

that is true, but isnt that only if you are running b100?

 

Check out also www.biodieselcommunity.org----Use unused veg oil to test frist and you can get lye from Lowes plumbing dept. where the drain cleaners are (ROBEC CRYSTAL DRAIN CLEANER) good enough to test with. Good Luck!

 

I believe, don't know for sure, that any amount of BD will eventually attack rubber components.
Lower percentage blends, B20 B50 etc, will take longer but eventually cause damage.

Take a rubber band and drop it in some bio at any percentage and see what it does. I put one in some B100, and it didn't take long to swell up and break with the slightest tug.

You may already have non rubber lines and seals on your truck. Ford changed to vitron about 1994.
