Another pair of questions.

Hi Everyone,

My frist question is, doe sit seem strange to hear a ticking or tapping sound from my C-Heads or intake just after a turn off the engine. I doesn't run hot, but is very built.

My secound question is, I now have a 1971 351C. I think all my goodies will bolt up. Plus is has flat top and just had a fantastic .30 full rebuild. I plain to add my roller rockers and intake and carb and header and msd. Does this seem like a good swap for my 400. I do have a small block c-6 waiting for it so the trans is not the prob. I was wondering if the 49 in smaller would be noticed. The 351 is built even nicer then mine. Plus I would have lots of spare parts.

Remember the 351C/400m are great for a trucks use. I have my 400 and a turn key driver now... I hope we all can keep them running.

Another pair of questions.

Hmm...question number one sounds kinda bad. i just had that problem with my 79 400. after heating up to normal operating temp. and turning it off there was a loud ticking/popping/knocking niose coming from somewhere on the engine. it had to do with the cooling system because i could feel the radiator hose pulsating in sync with the sound but i could never find where it was coming from. this all started right after i rebuilt the engine and after awhile of this i noticed it puffed a little white smoke on start up. i ran it like that for almost a year and just now took it all apart while working on some other things. it turns out the head gaskets were on backwards so there was barely any flow of coolant through the heads. the coolant in the heads would boil up (not to mention the compression that mustve entered the cooling system from the cracks) which caused the popping sounds. if the problem you have seems to be coming from the cooling system then its more than likely something like what i had. if not a backwards gasket then maybe a badly clogged coolant passage? as i found out the hard way, waiting too long to find the problem can be costly and time consuming. as for your second question...looks like a good combo to me but i really have no experience with the clevelands so your guess is as good as mine well hopefully this has been a help.
