painting handle surrounds

Hey everyone....I have an 08 lariat that has the chrome package....so...the actual handle part of my door handles is chrome, but i'd like to have the surrounds painted to match my truck. Has anyone else painted these? Are the factory painted ones a different handle thats smooth? If i have mine painted is the paint going to chip or peel because its not smooth?

Thanks everyone....

The factory PTM (paint to match) handles are smooth. Your handle buckets are textured and would most likely needed to be sanded down in order for the paint to stick better. It might cost several hundred to paint them.

You might be better off just buying the Mark LT handles and installing them yourself. They come with the painted buckets and chrome door pulls (handle itself). Then recoup some of your cost by selling your current handles. I would go this route.

www.tascafordparts.com

Right on their main page is a picture of the LT handle. Click on that and you have the choice of Harley, Lariat Chrome, or Mark LT handles. The Harley handles are paint to match.

What about the Mark LT handles though, the white chocolate tri coat (PV) should be close enough to yours? What is the two letter paint code on your door jamb sticker?

on a similar note....I was thinking about painting my mirrors to match. Not just the top section....but the whole mirror. I think it would like kinda cool. Does anyone have pics of mirrors that are completley painted to match? Thanks!

I have had some pieces on a previous vehicle painted before and they were textured like our handles/mirrors. I think they just add a flexing agent to the paint and it worked fine.

That's true, I forgot to mention the flex agent. Well, any reputable body shop should be able to paint plastic parts.

if yours is PV then they sell the Mark LT handles in your color. That Tascafordparts site I listed above has them. I would just order them, it would be a whole lot easier than trying to paint your existing handles. And then you could always sell your Lariat chrome handles to recoup some money back.
