I have a 360/390?(not sure yet) motor a C-6 transmission and divorced NP 205 transfer case
in a 76 4x4 Highboy. the body is shot but the drive train is great
I also have a 78 4x4 f 150 short bed that has a great body but bad drive train
so I want to put the 76's drive train under the 78
now I think that there might not be enough room to use the divorced transfer case? now my question for you guys is
" can I bolt my 78's coupler and direct mount NP 205 up to the 360/390's C-6 without swapping out the out-put shafts??? "
no because the divorced truck has a 2 wheel drive tranny. depending on the motor in the 78 you cant switch trannys unless its a fe engine. so the only way to do it is swap tail sections or run the divorced setup.
I didn't say anything about swapping transmission's? I know I cant do that
you must have misunderstood me?
I want to take the coupler and the direct mount np205 transfer case and bolt it to the 76, 390's c-6 transmission, I really don't want to run the divorced transfer case if I don't have to? and I really did not want to tear into the 390's transmission to swap out-put shafts. I can but don't want too, I need to get the project done as quick as possible. so I am trying to figure out the shortest distance between two lines ? ya know what I'm say-in
OK , I misunderstood, Yes that is what I meant? Sorry
of course I know that, I guess I figured that was a givin?
so I can swap tail housings and couplers and the 76's out-put shaft will work for mating up to the 78 np205?
I swapped a 351w and c-6 out of a 75 2whl drive truck into my 78 Bronco and I had to change the out-put shaft
it sucks but yes if you swap the tail sections everything will bolt together. sorry for the confusion sometimes its hard to explain what in the world im saying. and i try not to take anything as a givin, nothin against you but some people get all sorts of confused and its easier to just spell it all out for them. no harm intended and none taken.

Reason: add
I know the feeling!... I carefully thought out the question before I asked it and I still missed something?
and by swapping the tail section you are talking about the tail shaft housing right?
that is easy to swap that. I just dont want to tear down the whole transmission to get to the out-put shaft to swap it out.
I can, I know how, but then I might as well rebuild it too and I dont want to do that
that is more time and money that I dont want to spend if I do not have too
