NEED HELP, Vehicle down, 2004 Ford Freestar, CV Joint Boot Replacement
Hey y'all!
I am stumped on this one and could sure use some help! I removed the right side axle from my 04 Freestar last night and cut both bad CV joint boots off. The problem is, I cannot figure out how to get the joints off of the axle shaft so I can slide the new boots on and then re-install the joints onto the axle shafts.
Can anyone help? I have it torn apart and I see no retaining or snap rings, ETC. It appears that only the inside joint would be removeable, but I just cannot see any way to get it off.
Can anyone help get me out of this tough spot?
Thanks!

I am not familiar with your particular car but most CV joints I have come across are held on to the shaft with an internal snap ring. It requires a very hard sharp blow to spring the clip. There is a tool that fits onto a slide hammer and grips the joint to pull it off without damage. There is also a tool to fit the boot without pulling the joint but expensive. Sometimes the inner joint is held on with an external snap ring so I guess you are unlucky. You, of course, only need one joint off. Examine the outer joint very carefully, sometimes the ends of the snap ring can be seen thru a small slot and can be expanded to release the joint.

Thanks for the replies. With further investigation, I discovered that the boots on this shaft are not even servicable. You just replace the entire axle assembly if you can believe that. The axle was unbelieveably cheap, 65.00 at NAPA with my AAA discount.
I worked on it for about 4hrs last evening and got everything back together, including new rotors and front brake pads.
thanks again!
