The car was built in Northern Ireland 1981/83 by the Delorean Motor Company, founded by John Z. Delorean, a former Packard and after 1956, a Pontiac engineer.
He later became the president of the Pontiac Division of GM.
The Delorean powertrain was sourced from Peugeot. The car was built of stainless steel, most were not painted.
Delorean was the 'father' of the first Muscle Car, the 1964 Pontiac GTO.

Bricklin is an eccentric (to say the least) millionaire, and was previously involved with Subaru. His latest venture is importing cars made by the Chery Automobile Group of China.
He's supposedly signed up some Chrysler dealers to sell the cars here in the US.

I'm pretty sure he said the Delorean was based on the first plans of the Bricklin.
I think he said the had a deal for Delorean to work for him for 27 mil/yr. Then Delorean said he wanted that after taxes and that was what quashed the deal
