Hey guys im getting a 2004 f150 4x4 in a few months that has a 6 foot bed i was wondering what my options are to get a larger bed on this. does a 8 footer fit can i cut the *** end off and stitch in a 2 foot section then re attatch my *** end ?/???? lookin for sugestions. the reason i want to do this is that my father is giving me the truck ,so its free yea me, but i do landscaping and really need an 8 foot bed so i can fit my mowers and a tool box. Don't cut up the truck.

Either buy a trailer, bed extender or trade the truck for one with an 8' bed.

 

well thats not helpfull. i cant buy a trailer no place for storage. i cant trade truck i have payments on my dodge magnum cant afford two sets of payments. bed extender wont keep mulch and other debris in. why are you afraid of me cutting up my truck. im going to cut up my maggie and put a charger front end on it so its sweet.

 

 

Well, if you really, really want to, you can buy a tarp and put that in the bed so when they dump the mulch in it'll stay. The bed extender will probably be your best bet. If you cut your truck you can pretty much say goodbye to any resale value, not to mention there isn't enough frame under there and you'd have to find another place to put the tow hitch.

I'd say you're in a bind but a tarp and a bed extender might be your best bet. Or you can trade it for another '04 F150 straight up. I'm sure you can find one. It would be a downgrade but sometimes sacrifices are necessary.

If you have the time, money and knowledge you can do anything. But I wouldnt. good luck.

 

The bed sizes are 5.5, 6.5 and 8'. To put a larger bed on your truck, you would have to do an incredible amount of fabrication such as lengthening the frame, the fuel lines, brake and emergency brake lines, drive shaft, etc. Another bed would have to be purchased, welding and a frame jig would be needed also, oh and lots of MONEY. If you or someone you know has the ability to perform such a daunting task, then go for it, otherwise trade it for a truck of equal value.

 

just build a wood box that sits in the bed. use it with the tailgate down to keep mulch/dirt in.
