HERE'S An IDEA To Curb High Gas Prices

What a lot of people do not realize is the gas you dont buy today is going to be the gas you have to buy tomorrow. If there is a drop in demand the refineries just dont make that fuel.
Here is something to ponder though. I believe stations buy their gas monthly. So the gas they buy at 2.85 a gallon one week goes up to 3.00 a gallon the next day? Even though the gas still only cost them 2.85 now they sell it for 3. One other thing to think about is how much gas taxes are figured in. I think state of Nebraska puts at least 40 to 45 cents a gallon for taxes.
I dont think there will be an end to it in my time, or my sons for that matter.

Great point Darin... I've noticed up here at the BP just up the road, their prices always lag about 2 - 3 weeks. It's nice since when everybody else jumped higher over night, I've got a couple more fill ups at the lower price.
Nebraska definitely has the highest taxes up here. It's always 10 - 15 cents cheaper in Iowa and South Dakota.

Yup, when I lived in Bellevue sometimes I would drive the few miles to the Pilot in Council Bluffs to get that cheap gas. Yeah, 90% of the time the Casey's here in Beatrice will not raise their prices for a day or two. They follow what the other Caseys in Auburn does.
I couldnt believe the other day when I told my kid, Gee I remember cruising around when I was in high school and gas was 98 cents a gallon.

I guess the only thing we can do now is trade our trucks in for a Prius... Then we'll have to join the TPE Nebraska chapter, probably have some dorky chapter leader named Reginald. And instead of chapter meets, we can hold protests at the Hummer dealer!

I looked in my high school yearbook the other day and someone had taken a pic of a gas station sign that said 1.10 a gallon. They had posed the question of how would we survive and get to work.
I dont forsee ever owning a Prius so that is out. I did see a study once, an informal one albeit but they compared a Prius to an 86 Ford Taurus. Over the years the Taurus was cheaper to operate even with the incentives to buy a hybrid.

My wife has been talking about a hybrid... I told her if she buys a Prius, I won't go near it. She is looking at a Camry hybrid, but I don't see what the point is. It gets about 5 mpg better than my Five Hundred, so maybe after a few years the hybrid would have some savings. I'm still waiting to see some long-term results on hybrids, and what happens when the batteries are shot.

I heard that right now, the hybrids really aren't offering a whole lot of savings, in comparison to purchasing and operating them, to make it worth it. Maybe there will be significant improvements in the next few years, but I wouldn't buy one now. Besides, that Five Hundred is kind of cool! Never know, maybe they'll be a collectors item some day....... ...LOL!
