I would leave it alone if it's running ok now. If you set it low, that will make the fuel low in the carb. If it gets too low, it will try to cut out when you go around a long sweeping turn at high speed. I would try it, and put some g forces on it. If it doesn't start surging on the turns, I would leave it.
Im gonna check the float level here in just a little bit..Haven`t went around any turns in the truck,Just straight down the road and it`s chugging after about ten minutes,Cutting out,Etc..Im gonna check the float level and i`ll write back and tell ya what i found!!!!Thx for all your help bro!!!!

Ironically, I am planning to do the exact opposite of Fordf2504x4mudrunner. I have an 86 F250 4x4 with a 460. However, mine is not really tired, it just drinks a lot, to the tune of 5-6 miles per gallon. I have always liked the I6 and have found that they will do just about anything I ask of it, so I have decided to get rid of the drinking problem and go with a lower torque gas sipper. I used to drive an 80 F250 with I6 as a work truck. It was always loaded down with a tractor fuel tank and extra parts, oil, etc. It got around 15 mpg with all the crap in it, so I figure I can't be too far off of that with my swap, as I don't haul much of anything any more. My main concern is, will my bell housing from the I6 bolt up to the existing 4 speed trans that is in the truck? I'm pretty sure it will, just need second opinion. Thanx, Bob
Would love to have a 460 in this truck of mine drinking to the tune of 5 to 6 miles a gallon compared to my 300 drinking close to the same with 2 less pistons!!!The best i have ever gotten out of this truck is 11 miles a gallon with a 31 inch tire.As far as the tech. Franklin2 on here seems like he really knows what he is talking about.I would look him up!!!!

246000 TRUCK MILEAGE,ENGINE WAS REBUILT IN 2007 AND HAS 75669 ON IT!!!!
After all this time off trying to get my 300 to run right, i found out it was the carb gasket under the carb that sits on the intake was leaking air!!!!Put one under the carb and truck running like a top now!!!!Thanks for all the help!!!!!!
Keep the six! Put the money into a bulletproof Auto tranny! Kidding aside, that six has way more potential than people give it credit for. There are lots of mods and aftermarket stuff available for it, ya just gotta look a little harder. Cool thread though, I have enjoyed the read. By the way, see my sig, I have a windsor and a 300 six in two early 80's Broncs. Mine is the 85 300, hers the 351w. I like mine better, but hers is about to get a 408w stroker motor. Keep the six...... that's my vote!
