This may be a dumb question, I am having a hard time removing the steering stabilizer. Do I need a puller or should I just hammer on it? The new Monroe looks like the bolt that attaches to the center link is tappered.
Use a tie rod end pickle fork to get the old one off . The pickle fork will center the force needed around the stabilizer head and bolt. By hammering on the stabilizer ,it could break and most of this shocks are pressurized and filled with oil ( even the one that show signs of leaking ). A hammer and pressurized oil is not a good combo . Use eye protection . Most auto parts stores will rent the forks really cheep....Just make sure it the fork for the Tie rod ends
NOT the Ball Joint Fork....
When you reinstall the new bolt put Never Seize (Permatex is one of the brand names) on it and this will stop this from happining in the future.
Good Luck

Reason: more info
Got it off with a couple more hard hits. Went to install the new monroe and the tappered bolt snapped. Now the new one is stuck and I can't get it out. Off to the shop tomorrow and a phone call to monroe.
