95 4wd problem

Hi I have a 95 f150 4wd 5.8L auto, Im having trouble with my 4wd I push the button on the dash and it doesnt go into 4wd could anybody give me suggestions on where to start looking. Do thwese trucks have an electric accuator on themfor the 4wd?

yeah. It's bolted to the transfer case, it takes about 2 minutes to replace, and costs about $120

Ok so i got checking things out, the motor is working because i can hear it and i grabbed the shaft and it was locked in. So when I went to drive the truck i cranked it to one side and drove ahead and I did the same in the other direction then i went straight and punched it a little and I gto nothing out of the front wheels and this was al while i was on snow and ice in the shop yard. What could be the problem any ideas???
