Ok Have a question about the FMX tranny installed by PO in my 53....... this past weekend I got around to relocating the exhaust to a more sane location, and I noticed what looked like weights installed under the tranny tailshaft.
They look factory but I have never noticed anything like them on other trannys
There is a sort of an lazy L shaped bracket bolted to the underside of the tailshaft and segemented weights, well at least I think they are weights, bolted on the L bracket.
Is this normal? They are sort of in the way so anyone see a problem in removing them?
That is a vibration dampner. the weights help to absorb harmonic vibrations. The dampner is to absorb vibrations that would have been characteristic to the vehicle it came out of, not that particular transmission. It won't be a problem to remove it.
Great that was kind of my thought, in my mind which is a litle old and warped vibrations are usually reduced in spinning parts by adding weights directly to them... so this setup must have be to reduce/dampen up/down movement of the tailshaft I guess..... Thanks for the quick reply.
