1997 f250 7.3 antifreeze puddle??????

hey guys,

aside my 78 f250 mud truck....i own a 1997 crew cab f250 7.3 powerstroke 220,000 and running strong.this is my daily driver.for about 2 weeks or so i have noticed my temp gage reaching alittle bit above normal, not alot but alittle.yesterday i pulled it out of the garage and found a 8"x8"thin layer of antifreeze.i inspected under the hood and under the truck only to find the frame alittle moist, but could not tell exaclty were it was coming from.the subframe was wet more towards the drivers side.my assumption would be waterpump but unsure.visually checking the pump appeared to be dry.this is my first deisel so any input would be great!! thanks!

Did you take a look under the truck at the very bottom of the water pump to see if weep hole at the bottom is wet? This is a sure sign of water pump failure. Good luck..

i just did a waterpump on my '97 powerstroke last weekend. mine was leaking out of the weep hole and dripped right off of the center of the engine block so it was definately the pump.

if yours is a bit to the driver side, i would look at the tube between the pump and the lower hose. while you are driving, the fluid could be blown back to the crossmember. my pump came with a new one and good thing cuz the old one was darn near rusted through.....

if it is my water pump.......do you guys think a pump from autozone, advance, oreiley's is acceptable.one of these would be more in my price range than a dealer but if you don't recomend it than i'll go to the dealer.thanks!

These guys already have you on track. If its the water pump normally it drips down right behind the crank pulley. The thermostat/upper rad hose housing leaking is common as well.

Leak at fuel filter canister

I have replaced the vacuum switch at the diesel fuel filter canister, but I still see diesel fill up at the intake manifold housing. I am a novice at owning a diesel but I have always wanted one and I am trying to learn as I go. I try to do most of the work because I want to but this one has me stumped. I seem to find a wet rubber hose that connects at the base of the fuel filter canister to the base of the fuel pump. My diesel is a '94 F350 C/C 2WD. Standard. Thanks, rgj.

Hello, if it is the pump try to buy a one piece pump with the suction neck cast into the pump instead of the two piece bolt on neck. It's just one less leak point. Good Luck----------
