I would like to replace my rear view mirror with one that has temp and compass. Is this a do-it-myself project? How about a place to purchase? Any reason not to? If anyone has done this, was it worth it?
I had a mirror installed at the local Ford dealership with the home link, temp and compass features. I think the cost was $600.00 installed. I have an 07 F-350 so the compass and external temp are somewhat redundant. I thought that I would leave the temp on the heater set to internal temp and that having the compass on both the dash and the mirror would be better. They had to disconnect the compass from the dash and I only get the display on the mirror. I think that the home link is the only advantage and would save the money on the temp and compass next time, I think the home link only mirror was $200.00 cheaper. If I didn't have the temp and compass features in the truck, I would want them. There is no reason not to get the mirror if you want the features. I look at them often. I can't help with the install part of your question but they sold me the mirror including installation so I didn't argue. I don't know what truck you have so I can't say if the install will be more involved, if you don't have the sensors etc.
I bought mine for $40 on flebay. It's real nice and easy to install. I just need to get a new temp sensor since the one that came with it doesn't function properly. But hey, for $40, I am not complaining.
I had the Comp/Temp/LED Maplights version. VERY nice equipment and reasonably priced for what I bought. You can do it yourself, just take your time and be patient pulling off the interior stuff to tuck away the wires.
I got one off Fleabay for $100 bucks.. Not impressed.. It vibrates like a stuffed pig.. I wrote the seller and he goes "That's normal".. Bull crap.. You can actually grab it and tap it and it'll bounce..
I'm bout to put my stock one back on.. All I wanted was a Temp.. I got Compass on the Radar..
