Which Alarm?

Ok, I am looking for an alarm and cannot decide which one. I was looking at the Scytek brand, specifically the 5000rs. It seems nice but they also have rs-1, rs-1-2w etc... I was also considering LoJack. I am moving from SoCal to NC so the remote start would be nice but not a necessity. I just want something to make some noise to alert me in my home and keep a rookie from taking my truck or the electronics inside. I don't have a clue which route is better. I have had several basic alarms in the past. I don't want a crappy one that goes off all the time waking the neighbors either. Any suggestions? if it matters I have the keypad entry and diesel. Thanks

I use a viper and it has the remote start and cool down and it also has a engine cutoff in the event that it is set and goes off.

Most professional car thieves can bypass almost any alarm. I have the early detection lo-jack on my truck. Worth every penny. After being carjacked across the street from a Highway Patrol station almost 4 years ago everything I buy has lo-jack on it now.

What would be best though is if someone came out with a product that had a few sticks of dynamite and a transmitter. You come out, see your truck is stolen...hit the button and bye bye car thieves. Grant it, you'd blow up your truck with it but it'd be the last truck those thieves ever stole. But unfortunately here in the US I don't see that happening any time in the near future.

no car thief has bypassed a ravelco yet!!.(reason- no car theif is going to hang around 45 minutes trying!-they will move on!) they are huge sellers in the worst areas at the moment- arizona, new mexico and nevada. i was skeptical at first-but the product is the best. i called and talked to the owner-along with talking to about 30 guys that have had them installed. great product. the thief might get pissed and damage your vehicle- but they are not going to drive it away!!!!!!

Yeah but this Ravelco doesn't make noise to wake me up that someone is walking away with my tires/wheels or my $2200 Avic-Z2. The device I get must alert me or at least get attention. I know that most people don't pay attention to car alarms anymore but I want the noise to wake me up and maybe spook or deter an amatuer thief.

I agree - I want the LOUD alarm. I also want to get a page alert. I like the Ravelco for vehicle theft protection, but I think I would stick with something like the Viper for noise AND for sensitivity to impact.

If I had to leave the truck parked in an area where I was worried about theft of the vehicle, I would pull relay #304 - IDM relay. No start, only crank.

Also, since our door handles can be broken into VERY easily with a screwdriver punching either the lock OR a space just under the door handle hardware, I would ALSO get Jimmijammers.

viper 5900 starer alarm combo, have not had it go off unles sit has to and yet it is sensitive enough that if u sanp ur wipers in the winter to get the ice off with the alarm on it will warn but not alarm and i accdentely set it off kickin the runing board to get ice off it but never had it go off from say some one driving by. It is a 2 way remote system and will work with long range too, I like it.

Thanks for the links. I am on a Navy ship right now and my connection is too slow to search. It will just time out.

The best solution is good insurance with a high deductible to keep the cost down. Make sure you have gap if you have it financed or full replacement value.

I had the Scytec installed for the remote start and the two way key fob. The price point is better than most other options.
