Ive been wanting to replace my rotted bed for a while, so I finally got a new bed and since it was off, I decided to do a few other things.
First, I sanded down the frame to almost bare metal and gave it two coats of rustoleum rusty metal primer. Then,followed it up with some chassis black paint. I really did it for rust protection,but I thought it turned out pretty good looking. I fixed my old sending unit so now I know how much gas I have (my midship tank is MIA in case you were wondering). Also, I am going over the drum brakes, new wheel cylinders, shoes, and lines. New fuel lines as well!!

The best deal was the bed I bought for $85.00!

A FEW Questions:
1. I want to paint my wheels. I plan on painting the truck either Ford Blue or Black. What would you suggest?
2. What color would you paint the truck if it was yours?

Some ideas for paint: Paint it yellow and write "skool buss" on the side with black spray paint. Drive back and forth in front of the elementary school and see how long it takes to get arrested.

Or... paint it black, install a voice-activated computer and a back-and-forth red light in the grill. Walk around talking to your wrist and pretending you're David Hasselhoff.

Or.... weld the doors shut, paint it orange, and put a confederate flag on the roof. You know what to do with it from there.

Just some random useless but hopefully entertaining ideas.

 

I like my wheels painted Ford engine gray w/ the big 'dog dish' hubcaps.

But that's me.......and i'm a freak.

BTW, the under carridge looks great!

 

great deal on the bed!!since you asked if it was mine i would paint it blue and put some pin striping on it .

 

Oh, and BTW, what kind of trim is that on the bed? Im taking it off since it doesnt match the rest of the truck, so I will be selling it if anyones interested

Frame looks good. Looks like you got a newer bed, you realize your wheel openings wont match now.

Good luck with the project....having been through it over the last year I can empathize with the fun and frustration you're about to go through.

I recommend you consider the condition of the body, whether you can do your own body work, or the skill level of the body man you use. Both black and the Ford blue are great looking colors on a straight body, but will show every impefection. Over 400 hours went into the bodywork on my truck, and after all that when the paint went on it still wasn't perfect. The paint took 7 hours. It's the base that makes all the difference.

The best color choice if your bodywork is questionable is plain old white....it'll hide a lot of sins.

I had an 86 3/4tn ford 351w high out engine I was rebuilding and someone pulled out in front of me I am trying to find a rebuildable same type truck in 4x4 they are hard to find. Your truck is a good one to rebuild Thanks for the pics makes me want to get started on another project.

 

thanks QH, I am glad to start this rebuild. I got the truck for free, and I feel that I have a good foundation to start. I really just want a sturdy and safe truck, thats why I am focusing on the main structural parts first, such as the motor, frame, etc. I plan on doing the bodywork myself, and I have afew friends that are gonna help me out. I plan on taking off the front clip and clean up the motor and replace some gaskets and maybe replace the oil pump and such. I will follow up with more pics.

 

Hey, if you dont care, I dont care. I'm a bit OCD so things have to match for me or be even. I can't even stand having a car with one exhaust pipe out the back, I have to have duals to make it even.

 

Ok a few quick questions:
1. I have to bleed the rear drums, but I have a full floating rear axle (dana 60) and from what ive heard theyre a real pain in the neck. Is there a way to take off and replace the wheel cylinders without disassembling the drums?
2. Ive got a mint set of F350 fender pieces, but my F250 ones are MIA. Does anyone wanna trade me?
