In the mid sixty's (60) I worked for an oil company as a field rep and I used to set gasoline prices. The lowest that I recall setting was $0.239 in Hollywood. Ah yes....those were the days.

ya, trying to put together a mini "bio refinery" on the cheap right now. the biggest problem is securing a fairly steady supply of oil!

when i started driving (ya, all 4 years ago) gas was just cresting $2/gal and i thought i was going to go broke. 100% increase in 4 years, i just wish my bank account would follow suit

I guess I know too many geologists (that are not in the oil business) that beileve this to be true.

The fact is : Oil is a finite resource with a seemingly infinite demand.

I was reading in a popular mechanics magazine yesterday about how much oil there still is in the world, and the 55 billion gallons they just started drilling in the us. this is ridiculous.
Good, why don't you start an oil and gas company and build a few refineries for us. Then you can sell it for $1 a gallon.

As far as the economy, you are confused. When the Fed popped the housing bubble, the big slowdown started. Then the dollar went down, and oil went up.

Is everyone that lurks on FTE really that bad at mathematics? Just the oil at $110 a bbl. to make 1 gallon of diesel puts the crude at $2.61, thats before transportation, refining, and transportation to market.

Guess I can't complain. Just filled up today and it was $3.99 a gallon. Now wish I kept my 85 Ford F-150 as it ran on propane. But that is up to $2.97 a gallon. Something got to give, guess I'm looking for an old egg beater to go to/from work as the pay raises are aren't keeping up with demand.

even driving a rice rocket is going to cost a fortune, i would rather spend a little extra money and have peace of mind knowing that if i am in a serious wreck i am going to walk away from it driving my truck.

my wife's focus might see 26 mpg on the highway. my truck (driving sane) can get 19 highway. do you really think its worth driving a smaller 4 banger car?

I completly agree, that's why I'm holding out for now. Heck my wife's 98 blaser 4.0 liter get worse gas mileage than I do. Think I'm in the 18-20 MPG range now. But in corporate america it's all about profit $$$$ to shareholders .. most to the CEO's and other high end people. We employee's take it by the shorts, do more for less and and the pay raises are simply not there.

If it hits $5.00 a gallon then some serious changes in lifestyle will be needed. Heck, ya got to get to work somehow .........

It might hit Five at the rate its going, here in N.Y. I saw a high of 4.56 per gallon and a low of 4.17................. I run a small landscape biz so a rate increse is a for sure thing ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but another thing to keep in mind is that traditionaly diesel fuel drops a during the warmer months as the home heat season comes to and end and the supply increases, but even that may change cause now home heat 2 oil and off road diesel and on road diesel and on road kero and off road kero are all differant types of fuel that require differat storage tanks and differant delivery trucks which will some how cost the consumer more .......... Anyway now we Americans are getting a taste of what the rest of the world has delt with for many decades HIGH FUEL COST what a bummer we was spoiled...........
