Fuel leak on top of the engine

I am trying to fix the diesel leak on top of the motor in my 1995 F350 with a 7.3. I replaced the fuel pump and all the hoses on top of the engine, but I still have a leak. I cleaned the top of the engine and probed for the leak 3 times. As best I can tell, the leak is coming from the driver side bolt that fastens the fuel water separator to the engine. This would mean that the aluminum fuel water separator must be cracked. Does this sound reasonable or I way off base?

I just had my fuel pump replaced and 2 weeks later I noticed a fuel leak again. Back to the shop and the found the 2 high pressure return lines that go to the front of the fuel filter canister were leaking. Got those replaced and everything looks good as of now. Might want to look at those...

Thanks for the advice. I suspected those hoses, so I took everything apart again and cleaned and dried everything and tightened those hoses and still have a leak. I see fuel seeping on the top of the motor just to the driver side of the fuel water separator. At first I thought that it might be coming from the metal fuel lines that run just above this location. But, after I cleaned everything really well, I could see it was not coming from those metal lines.

There are three sensors on the drivers side of the fuel filter canistor. I know for a fact the top and bottom sensor can / does leak. It is probably one of those sensors leaking internally. Look at where the electrical connector is attached to the sensor, that is where they leak.

Thanks for the help.

I cleaned the around those connectors pretty good between leak tests and I did not think that they were leaking. If they were leaking, I would still have to buy the fuel water separator canister right?

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

This brings me to my next question. I checked with my Ford dealer and they wand $511 for the fuel water separator assembly. When I checked with powerstrokeshop.com, they wanted $21.08 for what the web page describes as “Fuel/water separator, f350, di diesel”. Is this the same canister that I can just transfer the parts from my old one to the new one?

I feel your pain. I'm in exactly the same boat. I replaced my fuel pump and lines and still have a small leak somewhere and I can't seem to track it down. I'm going to dust it with cornstarch again the next time I've got time to mess with it.

The sensors are replacable. They just unscrew. Best guess the $21.08 item is the the Water-In-Fuel sensor.

I'm with Hussler, I think Ford quoted you for the Fuel Filter cannister and Powerstroke quoted you for just the sensor. Those sensors are plastic and they crack and leak and the O-rings go bad. My .02 cents

I called up powerstrokeshop.com and what I was looking at on the web page was the fuel filter. A poor description and wishful/unrealistic thinking let me fool myself. powerstrokeshop.com said they would sell me the fuel/water separator unit for $300. I am going to recheck the sensors like you guys suggested before I take the plunge for $300.

Where can I buy the replacement sensors/seals from?

I would think Ford or International, or somewhere online I got mine from local International Dealer. In my case I was looking for a huge spray and it ended up being just a little drip, like a kitchen sink, about 1 drip every couple seconds or so.

Well, after replacing the fuel pump for leak ....

Top sensor drivers side "fuel canister vacuum switch" and bottom sensor drivers side "water in fuel sensor".

I just replaced mine 2 months ago,I started by just replacing boyh O-rings first because they were cheap about $7 .I put back together and bottom one still leaked(fuel bowl heater connecter) so replaced it about $50.
