When i do start and stop the starter turns slow like a dead battery. acts fine any other time. It is worse in the summer. I have changed a lot of parts, none have helped.
Clean the battery terminals and engine and chassis grounds.
How's the fuel milage? If the motor is running rich it will wash the oil from the cylinder walls and make warm starts harder.
If it's carbureted (I know the larger engines had carbs longer than the small ones) I'd check for fuel dripping down the carb after you shut it off. Other than that clean all battery connections and grounds. Any reason to suspect heat soak in the starter? Headers? Exhaust really close to starter? If so try making a heat shield for the starter.
I had the same trouble with my truck. Cold it started fine, but hot it cranked real slow or would not crank. Changed the starter and problem disapeared.
Good luck Frank
