The K+N FIPK are much better than the drop in's but still not the best IMO. The AFE's are a good filter. I personally don't like oiled filters. I like paper much better. But the AFE is designed for diesels with a finer cloth from what I understand.

Nope afe is the same material I have compared with my father in laws K&n they both use the same oil and cleaning solutions I cleaned mine on a regular bases and would spray oil on the inside and outside of the filter they are full of crap saying these filters are designed for diesels there are no differences in diesel or gas applications the filter is made of a medical gauze and seeing first hand on my truck tells me they don't work your absolutely rite paper is better

Really. well thats good to know.

BTW I measured the elbow I used for my filter install. Its a 45* elbow with 6 inch legs. so its 12 inches total, 4" diameter.

Ok, I thought this one had been kicked around for a couple of years now and there were studies (which I know I have seen on this forum) showing the comparissons between the stock filter, the K&N, the AFE, the 6637 and one or two others, I remember distinctly the K&N AND the stock filters allowing an abundance of particulate matter through (and the stock filter being restrictive), however I also remember the AFE was rated fairly well at flow AND constrainning the flow of particulates.

Nothing against you WALJON, but I have run my AFE for several years and the last time I checked I didn't see any abnormal wear... I have noticed that you definately need to be sure your clamps and fittings are tight however, otherwise you definately will spring an intake leak which is, well, like not even having a filter...

I agree about the clamps and I assure you the clamps were always tight maybe we drive in different conditions or something but check it out AFE and K&N are the same element there is no special diesel filter element and from what I seen on my turbo is enough proof for me that this filter element lets lots go by

I too had a hard time believing this because of the price I paid for the AFE and no disrespect too you either everyone has there own opinion

Proper instillation and Maintanance of you equipment is paramount. I have used K&N for years with no issues and I have never had a dirty or even slightly dusty air box...
