good morning, new here, i have just bought a f250 1992. the map lights dont work, i took off the dome light, then replaced the bulbs and re installed it.
still no map lights. im assuming it is getting power since the dome light works but not the map lights. (i also have a f150 94 that i have been taking parts from, i installed that one in the 250 and got the same thing, dome light works, map lights dont.)
hopefully someone has and idea, and thanks in advance.

 

Look for a lightgreen/yellow wire leading up to the maplights. This is the hot wire and should have power. If it's dead, then follow it down to the lower cab corner, and make sure it's not corroded where it runs along the floor to the front.

 

not sure how i follow it down, it goes into the headliner. will that be on the drivers side or passanger side? wouldnt the dome light not work if it was not getting power?

 

The domelight has seperate wiring to the door switches. It is fed off the same fuse, but the map lights have a hot wire right off the fuse that goes directly to the maplights, while the domelights go to the switches first.

On the older trucks, the wiring came right down the rear driver's side cab, and ran along the driver's side floor. It's a bad area and easy for the wiring to get damaged.
