2001 Ford escape low coolant light

I have a question for ya all that has me stumped. My low coolant light keeps coming on especially after I've been driving for a while usually on the Highway after about an hour it will just come on and then when you stop and shut it off for about 15mins it goes off until you drive for a while again. I have checked everything I can think of and it is definatly not low on coolant. I also went through my Haynes manual and thought it might be a sensor somewhere however I coulnd't find any info on it. Has anyone ever had this problem or can anyone tell me what this might be thanks.

check your coolant level. You may have a air bubble in the system or the sending unit may be on its way out.

My wife's is doing the same thing right now. I have filled the coolant resv. tank to the F mark, but it continues to show low coolant level while driving it. I looked at the coolant fill tank and there is a sensor at the bottom of it. You will need to remove the coolant resv. tank to get at it though.

Have you changed your sensor and do you know how much it will cost roughly. If it dosen't take much I will just do it myself thanks for the info.

My '01 Escape did this off and on for several years too. Finally replaced the whole coolant tank, and the problem has never repeated. I've read that this is a persistant problem with some of the early Escapes.

My 01 Escape did the same thing about 40,000 miles ago I checked in to a new one and for the price I said I'll just unplug the sensor and check the fluid like I've always done for the last 30 years I've driven not one problem since.

Had the same problem and repair was to replace the coolant tank or as suggested, unplug it.

Was a well known 2001 issue. Replacing the bottle seems to be the answer, although my former 01 only did it once and was fine after that.

According to Ford, Just adding coolant may solve the problem.
