All things like cost and longevity factored in, what would you put on a shop or garage roof? I like colored tin but man its getting pricey. We did two shops in the last few years that way.
I would, and will, do tin when the time comes for me to build a shop. The way I see it it looks great, better then shingles, and will last as long as you have the building.
I don't know how it is in Manitoba, but in Ontario, the insurance companies are getting worse and worse with building requirements. Now, they won't insure a home if the roof is over 20 years old and the wiring is over 30. Meaning shingles that are over the 20 year lifetime mark aren't worth anymore than 20 year shingles.
My next door neighbour was told by his insurance company that the older part of his roof was 18 years old a couple of years ago. That was in the winter, and during the summer he hired a local guy to lay down strapping and put tin over top of the shingles. Noise isn't a big problem, being that they left the shingles in place.
I don't look forward to the day I have to rip out the wiring in the old part of the house.
