Hey do either of you guys know where I can get a propane setup for cheap.... I like my truck, I just cant afford to feed her, and when gas top2 $1.50/$2. this summer, I'll probably be driving a scooter....
I know a guy who uses this guy to convert his 73-79 fleet to propane. He's in Surrey, I don't know about prices though...
Have you ever run propane? What are the pro's/con's? I have heard lack of horsepower, but if I was concerned about that I wouldn't be driving a straight 6.
A guy I worked for had his trucks running on propane, he used the guy in the link. I got to drive three of them, two automatics and one manual, they were all tuned good, lots of power, one was a dually and it can spin all four rear tires all day long!!! That one was a 390 with auto, LOTS of fun to drive that one!
So, I guess if it was on gas it would have more horsepower but once your able to spin tires does the exact figure really matter? Power is power...
Power is only a small percentage. Something I really dont give a sh!! about anyways. 4" of stroke on a 6cyl, how much more grunt would I actually gain...
my former boss probably had about 15000 into each truck, so he prob had a fair amount into the engines as well. I think you would have to tweak your set-up to see power gains, dif timing, new plugs/wires, but I'm pretty sure that is necessary anyway when converting to propane. I don't think I have ever seen a 6cyl propane truck but I am sure they exist somewhere, and I have not driven one either. It sounds like a good idea, I would think about getting a performance intake and a header for when you convert it as more air in and out always helps power and increases how much the propane can be tuned. As I understand it, gas or propane are used as the catalysts to get the oxygen in the mixture burning. So, more air equals more power. There is lots of info in the engine section of FTE regarding 6cyl performance. That is my twenty-two cents and I am no expert...
