Clicking noise - near rear hatch remote lock
I just realized that the remote locking mechanism for the rear door is making a whirring and clicking noise...all the time. it is getting annoying.
What do you think...bad solenoid or sensor? The truck was popped from the rear about two months ago. Only damage was to the bumper and it was superficial. The door/window opens and closes with no problem.

I haven't heard of a door actuator cycling in that fashon before on a Gen 3 Explorer. Anything is possible of course. I would think you'd get the Door Ajar message with that scenerio. I think the actuators are the same part number for the doors and rear liftgate so you could try switching it out with another one. A much more common source for that noise you describe is the aux (rear) climate control. If you have the rear CC you should crawl into the cargo area or 3rd row and listen by the trim panel on the driver's side and see if the noise is there. Good luck - let us know.

Yep...it's coming from the rear air unit. I unplugged it for now. When I have time next week, I will dig into it. I'm not looking forward to replacing it. I have a friend of mine who works for Ford who usually helps me out on parts. My Son doesn't use the rear air anyway...so there is no hurry to repair.
