83 non-HO 351W cam, add 1.7 or New Cam

Ok, I know the specs for the 84- HO cam, and the lift of the 83 non-HO cam, but not the rest of the specs. Anyone know?

I figure I could probably stick on a set of 1.7s and get the lift, rather than have to pull apart the thing and stick an HO cam (Or Comp Cam, Crane, etc).

A. Non-HO Specs?
B. Can the Springs take the 1.7s lift?
C. How much can I add without having Banana Valves on the stock 83 pistons?

Thanks, guys!

The non-HO cam is no more than 0.416" lift at the valve with 1.6 rockers, 1.7 rockers would give you 0.442" lift... no bad for the amount of work involved. The springs can take that much no problem, and I don't see any issues with valve clearance considering the short duration that stock cam has.. it's no more than 260 deg advertised, probably closer to 250 degrees.

With the restrictive heads on the 351, the more lift you can give it the better it will breath.. definitely worth it. The difference in power between the HO and non-HO 351 is impressive, and 1.7 rockers on a non-HO cam pretty much matches the HO cam specs.

can be, but your also looking at roller rockers.

have you tried filtering down some more? I purposely left it vague for that reason.

i guess it makes sence, 2v per cylinder, 16 rockers... 159 isn't such a bad price. i'll still keep looking though, there might be a better deal yet. say, will the idle "lope" as if there was a cam in there??
