i have a 86 f-150 my father built the motor up its got 450 horses but he blew the tranny before he died he left me with a headache trucks been sitting for 7 years i just got my license i put a gas tank new sending unit and pump in tank plugs wires cap rotor oil change and a new tranny but i cant figure out for the life of me why it wont start its getting spark but no fuel pressure i can hear the pump in tank go on but no power to inline pump i found a shut off switch under the glove box almost on the ground it says first fuel shut off switch i need to find out if their is 2 for both pumps when i hit the switch the one in the tank started to work but their is still no power going to the inline i checked the fuses and relays but nothing seems to be wrong so can someone please help me out thanks in advance mike
wow, i've never seen such a long sentence in my life. jk. a ground wire maybe? are you sure that there is no other switch in/ near the glove box? how about under the hood?
have you tried to ring the wires out? that would help you find out if you had a short or something. and are you sure you have no power to the pump and not just a pump that took a poop on you?
well i took a test light to the plug, and i got nothing so i was thinkin that it might have just crapped out on me. and i was just gonna put a new pump in and see what happens
take the pump out and see if it works when hard wired to the battery. i'm new to the truck realm but i know i've done it on my 4 cyl. and if it wines the pump is good, if it doesn't the pump is shot. just an idea, and my .02.
Is the motor that is in the truck the original or did your dad put in a different one when he built it? Also is the truck fuel injected or carbuorated?
its not a stock he had it bored 30 over he said he had to put a 91 mustang wireharness and processor in it to make it run perfect he drove it for 2 years before he blew the trans and its fuel injected
in these fourms there is a electrical schematic of the fuel system.there is a yellow wire that runs up the passenger side of the engine compartment, and runs across the radiator support and down the drivers side to the fire wall beside the master cylinder.there are relays there and sre for your fuel pumps.good luck i found nurmous broken wires in mine
If he put in a different motor and ecm that electrical schematic of the fuel system will probably be altered. Maybe not but there is a very large likelyhood that it has been altered. Your best bet would be to try to trace the wires from the pumps up and see if there are any broken wires or anything.
i know what thats like, lol. mine **** on me last night. after midnight, and a whole 18 degrees out. anyway, when you ring out your wires make sure to have a long wire, and someone to hold one end of the multimeter on the wire itself, basically it test the resistance in itself. you know like when you you touch the two prongs together it "reads" itself. thats what your doing, only with a looong lead. i hope this helps you out some. keep us posted!
