Well no smoke is a good thing, lot's of smoke is unburnt fuel and wasted power. Sound's like your truck likes the stuff you did to it. But the SHSHSHSH you hear is surge created from truck breathing better. Compresser is spinning more rpm. Change compresser housing to a ATS housing. Leave wheel alone. To get our truck's to be smoke free is a hard thing to do. You might have a weak HPOP. Most programmer's turn the fuel up. Unless you get custom live tuning, then you can control air and fuel mix for less smoke. Other's will chime in on there thought's. Have fun and don't push a hole through the floor board!!!!

I was behind a Dodge/Cummins yesterday in the wagon. That thing was belching out more smoke than a tri-axle. I just shook my head. At three something a gallon for fuel - I don't get it - and apparently he doesn't either. I was a little interested though - he had a nice looking '63 ChevyII on the trailer!

Sometimes it's just cool to blow a little soot. I do it on occasion, but only when "asked".
The 'ssshhhhhh...." sound may not be surge. If it sounds like a "chufffa-chuffffa-chufffa.." sound then it might be. Just a sssshhhhh... is excess boost blowing back out the intake that you couldn't hear previously. When the tranny shifts in to OD, there is a bunch of boost still in the "pipe" that the engine no longer needs, or can use. So it blows back out the way it came to equalize.

The first question is before you added the SB intake were you getitng more black smoke? If so then it was because of the restrictive stock filter setup not allowing enough air into your cylinders
The shhhhhhhhhhh should you hear when normal driving is the intake drawing air in.
the pitpitpit sound you hear at higher RPM levels is surge
Alot of "off the shelf" tuners only adjust either ICP, or Pulse Width timing, most do not add more fuel(I know this is true for BullyDog, as I had spoke to their Tech dept prior to ditching mine) Custom tunes, as in DP, Tony Wildman,DI, Swamps, Tadd, Cale,etc.... go the extra step and adjust all of those, ICP,PW, fueling maps, etc to get the best performance out of your PSD.
