I dont think there are any differences between 250 and 350, but 450's have straight frames from the cab back. Cab and chassis 250 and 350's do as well for that matter though. Width is the same I believe, but 450 and 550 frames might be a little heavier.
Legally changing your gvw tag on the pickup I have no idea about, but if you simply put 19.5 rims on a f350 dually technically the DOT will let that axle carry the same amount of wieght that a 450 or 550 axle could, wieght ratings are on the tires.
Frame differences between F250 and F350 ?What are material thicknesses and rail and beam height measurements etc?
Anyone put F350 or F450 axles in a F250? If you do this will there be any official complaints about upping your towing weight?
What year(s) F250? If '99.5-'04, then absolutely nothing different.

What year(s) F450?
Then YES, there is a major frame difference. But between a 2007 and a 2005, no, they are the same between classes, ie F250/350 and 450/550, and 650/750.
In Washington, where your at, you can legally license your F250 to around 32k. But you have to have the tires to support the weight. Once you register at 16k or above you will have to stop at weigh scales like the big boys. If your tires are not of the size/rating for the axle weights, they will cite you. Dead line your truck, until you off load, to meet your capabilities.

Good luck
Is this just for the truck ?
I just want to pull a 12,500 trailer once in awhile. Its a not for hire deal.
Isn't it 600 lbs per inch width of tire?
So to do that 32k you would need tires 13.3 inches wide?

If that is all you are pulling why are you worried about the difference between a 250 and 450. A 250 will handle a trailer w/ that kind of wieght w/o any problems. Completely stock. I had a 95 and 97 250 psd. I had a 14k g/n and a 5er that was around 12k. They both handled them w/o any issue and were completely stock.
Well what it is, an 14,000 lb rated, dual axle flatbed goose neck, 25 feet. And has an item that weighs 9,000 lbs on it.
So I am hoping the trailer doesn't weight a bunch. About what do they weigh?
mudmaker, how much weight do you have on the truck when pulling them? What engine? I don't have a dually. It is a 4x4.
Most flatbeds weigh between 5000 and 8000lbs... they are heavy bucks. Usually solid steel... best get yours weighed before you proceed! If your lucky they may have rated your GVW based on the total axle GW, which is about 20% shy of the actual capacity of the trailer. Of course, ignoring the gvwr is at your own peril :P

Not to argue, but I believe you are thinking about 20k+ gvw flatbeds. Most 14k flatbeds that I have looked at and the 28' one I own is right at 4k empty.

I use my g/n for hauling alot of different things. I try not to go over 10k. Skidsteer w/ attachments is 8k, but I pull that with a tilt bumper pull now. I really dont haul much with my g/n's anymore, but they are nice to have available. If I need more capacity I have a 30k g/n, but it is 43' long so can be a PITA to haul around sometimes.
That's good to know... the ones I was looking at which were between 8k and 18k were quite heavy with solid steel frames. My halfton could pull them empty, but not with a load on them! They weighed in around 5500lbs.
